Review: New Super Mario Bros 2

2006 a new 2D mario game came out to reinstall the plattforming 2D genre into Mario considering the last
2D mario game was Super Mario Land 2 in 1992, and this game was called New Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros proved to be an absolute success, it selled a lot and it proved that 2D Mario had a great shot at coming back in full force and so, New Super Mario Bros Wii came out in 2008, the first 2D console Mario Game since Super Mario World in 1990, again it was really good but it lacked some innovation, and so in 2012 a New 2D Mario game came out on the 3DS, This was New Super Mario Bros 2, and how is the game?, lets find out.

The story:

I dont want to spoil it but, THE STORY IS MUCH OF THE SAME AS THE LAST 2 GAMES!!!, well Peach says farewell to Mario and Luigi as they fly away with their racoon suits, suddenly the koopalings clash into the Mario Brothers and capture princess peach, AGAIN, thats all there really is to say, just beat 6 worlds and rescue her, the same story since the beginning.

The Gameplay:

This game controls just like the last 2D mario games, you have to complete 6 world and 2 secret worlds, each one with a boss in the end of the world, 7 of the are the Koopalings with the last one being the showdown with Bowser, however many powerups from New Super Mario Bros Wii were removed to enphasize into the new gimmick of this game: Coins, lots and lots of coins.

This game LOVES gold, there are all new gold items and powerups, like the Gold Ring that turns all enemies into gold, the gold block that you can hit with your head to equip it in your head, the gold flower that turns everything into gold, there are many more gold things and while the idea is interesting it isnt impemented very well.                                                                                And unfortunately the problems dont end here, New Super Mario Bros 2 just feels like is much of the same, and thats not always a bad thing but the "If aint broke dont fix it" doesnt work all that well here, the worlds have the same aesthetics and its just the same.
And the Fire flower, starman and Mini Mushroom return and surprisingly enough Racoon Mario"s back allowing you to fly just like in Super Mario Bros 3 and a new powerup has been added called the Gold Flower, this flower is godmode equivalent to 2D mario games, while it is incredibly rare it destroys EVERYTHING, also the mega mushroom is back and as overpowered as always. There is also a 2 player co-op that, while it is fun, the fact that it is offline only is kinda dissapointing.
HOWEVER! there is, for the first time in a Nintendo game, DLC in america, this mode gives more level packs to the incredibly addictive and distracting coin rush, speaking of...

Another mode, the Coin Rush, challenges the player to collect the most coins they can in three randomly-selected levels through three different options. The Mushroom option will choose three levels from amongst Worlds 1, 2, and Mushroom; the Fire Flower option chooses three levels from amongst Worlds 3, 4, and Flower; and the Star option choose three levels from amongst Worlds 5, 6, and Star. In other words, Mushroom is the easy difficulty choice, Fire Flower is the medium choice, and Star is the hard choice.

The Graphics:

The game looks really nice, the backgrounds are OK but its nothing spectacular and 3D effect is just worthless because of all the action in screen.

The  Music:

Just remixes and some new things, nothing too special, but the music is still good.

The Replay Value:

The coin rush and the medal collecting make it very replayable and fun, the level design makes the levels a lot of fun to travel to and the coin rush is just so addicting it can make you go back A LOT.

The Conclusion:

-Sadly this is one of the few mario games without innovation, and while the game mechanics work well and its still really fun, we need innovation, it is replayable but im sorry to say that the new mechanics arent that cool and this game is my least favorite of the "New" series.

6.5/10
A 6 means the game can be enjoyable and fun but the mistakes are noticeable, try it out.

Fact of the day #38

In Star Fox 64 there is a "On foot" option in the multiplayer, this option however is a legend because getting it is pretty dificult, to unlock it you have to get a medal in Venom"s expert mode.

Fact of the day #37

Mother bedroom
In Pokemon, if you look carefully, there is only two floor in your house, and one of them is your room and the other one is the kitchen, so the conclusion is this, YOUR MOM SLEEPS IN THE KITCHEN.

Opinion: Pokemon"s last stand?

Hello everyone Peabodys here and im here to talk you about something really popular, Pokemon, i absolutely love Pokemon and the spinoffs are unique and fun, in fact, Pokemon Firered is one of my favorite games of all time, but one question has been rising from the "fans", is pokemon reaching to the end of the line?

aWell to you all "fns" that hated Gen V i have to say something really important, Gen V was probably one of the best generations of all pokemon next to Gen III, the story was well incorporated and developed, the pokemon were amazing (What"s that?, a screw as a pokemon?, remember Gen I?, where a pokemon WAS LITERALLY A FUCKING RAT!?) and the game mechanics were improved to be faster, more balanced and so much fun!, so to all of you who say "Meh Pokymon"s doomd Gen I da bes!" just think about it, remember when the psychic types were ridicously overpowered?, yea, me too.

But the only problem i see its that some innovation, some creative spinoffs are needed and I think its time to into the console world and make a main pokemon console game, NINTENDO PLEASE!.

And lastly I really think a Ruby/ Saphhire remake is needed, just improve the games with Gen V mechanics and we will have a wondeful nostalgic experience.

Conclusion:

Pokemon is FAR from dead, screw you all Gen V haters, we just lack some innovation.

Retro Review: Donkey Kong 64

In 1999 a game made by RARE came out on the nintendo 64, this game was one of the last games made by RARE before microsoft purchased them, this game as a twist in gameplay and if was something unexpected, this game is Donkey Kong 64, what do I think about the game?, lets find out.

DONKEY KONG 64 REVIEW!!!!!!

Story:

The story of DK64 takes place after DKC3, K.Rool returns with a gigantic artificial island and a powerful cannon named "Blast-O-matic" and wants to use to destroy DK island, however the island crashes into DK island and the cannon malfuctions, K.Rool then orders to capture "Diddy Kong", "Lanky Kong", "Cranky Kong" and "Tiny Kong", and steals all the Donkey Kong"s banana hoard, Squawks informs Donkey Kong of the disappearance of his hoard and the Kongs and then Donkey tells Cranky about what happened
immediately afterwards. After entering Training Barrels under Cranky's command, he is given a potion: Simian Slam. Donkey is also told to
acquire fifteen banana medals for a special surprise. Donkey then used his newly-acquired potion to exit the inside of Donkey Kong Island.
Unfortunately, every other area outside was blocked, except for an island attached to K. Rool's mechanical island. There, Donkey met K. Lumsy, a gargantuan Kritter who disobeyed the tyrannical king's order to wreck havoc on Donkey Kong Island. When Donkey agreed to free him, K. Lumsy danced in joy and dislodged the boulder on Donkey Kong Island that blocked the first world: Jungle Japes, as Donkey Kong you have to get 25 Golden Bananas in 7 diferent worlds, 5 with each characters, you have to rescue the other kongs and use them to get more bananas and get 8 Keys to rescue K.Lumsy and unlocking levels on the way.

Gameplay:

First level: Jungle Japes.
This game is awfully similar to Banjo-Kazooie, and thats not bad at all, as Donkey Kong you have to get 25 Golden Bananas in 7 diferent worlds, 5 with each characters,  each one has some special abilities that you buy through the game, for example Lanky Kong can handstand, and each character has his own stats:
-Donkey Kong is kinda slow but strong
-Diddy Kong is faster than Donkey Kong but weaker
-Lanky Kong is the balanced one, both speed and kinda fast
-Tiny Kong is the fastest and weakest
-Chunky Kong is the Strongest but slowest.
All 5 characters you control.
There are 8 diferent worlds each one with his own gimmick and powerups, 25 Golden bananas each world, and also you have to collect diferent colored bananas, 500 in each world and a 100 with each character, you need these bananas to open boss doors by feeding the bananas to a hungry hungry hippo and then you fight the boss, after you defeat a boss you get a K.Lumsy key, you have to get many upgrades through the levels:
-Candy Kong gives you a musical instrument and more health
-Funky Kong gives you a gun
-Cranky Kong gives you upgrades.

Graphics:
The engine used for the graphics reminds me a lot of Banjo Kazooie, the game looks amazing for the N64, everything is detailed and colorful, it is the first game to use the expansion pack and it definately shows.

Music:

The soundtrack is amazing, it gets you interested in playing the game and finding out whats going to happen, Jungle Japes is adventuorous and fun, angry aztec is interesting, Frantic Factory is creepy and weird, Gloomy Galleon is boring...,  Fungi Forest is light-hearted and adorable, Crystal Cavern is so natural and calmed, Creepy Castle is well... creepy, and boy, Hideout Helm is perfect for setting the mood for the final level and the overworld is really nice.

Replay Value:
Considering all the bananas and overall colectibles you can get, and how fun the game is, it is kinda replayable and fun to complete, the multiplayer is OK but its not perfect and it has some flaws.

Conclusion:

Dk64 is a platformer that while it has some flaws, the game is fun to play and enjoy, if you have a N64 and you like platformers you should definately check it out.

8.0/10
An 8 means the game does a great job, is does many things right but it doesnt reach perfection.

See ya later!
