Retro-review: Kirby Dream Land

Well I havent done a review in a while but oh well, its time for a very quick yet nostalgic review, so in 1992 a very interesting game came out called Kirby"s dream land, this game is known to be the first step into one of the longest living series in all videogames, but as a game, does it hold up?, ehhh.... lets find out.

Story:

Well, its a game boy game so its pretty simple, defeat King Dedede and recover all the food that was stolen, its not Zelda complicated but hey, its something for a game boy game.

Gameplay:

And this is the reason why you should avoid Kirby Dream Land, As kirby you can absorb things and spit them out, you can fly and crouch, and if you are asking if im missing something, im not, in this kirby game, you cant get powers, which really sucks (See what i did there?), i mean, i can understand why you cant get powerups because you know, this is the first kirby game and all, but it hasnt aged well thanks to that.

You can get some powerups to spit different things, but if you compare to kirby dream land 2 or Kirby Super Star, its just lacking, but in terms of the stages, there are a total of 5 stages. in each one you have to reach the end and fight a boss, with the last boss being King Dedede itself, no completion secret, no real final boss, nothing else except an extra mode that is actually really challenging.

Graphics:

Well it looks basic for the Game boy, nothing bad but not really good either, the sprites are ok and the backgrounds look nice.

Music:

Now this is the best aspect of this game, for a game boy game, KIrby Dream Land has some awesome tunes, Green Greens, the boss music, pretty good for a game boy game.

Replay Value:

Well Extra mode does have some replayability considering how fucking hard it is, but after that, there is actually nothing.

Conclusion:

Well Kirby Dream Land is a game you should only try if are very interested, because as of 2013, ther e is no reason to even get close to this game, you may be asking why, well I only need to say 3 words

Kirby Super Star

Kirby Super Star has a remake of all Kirby Dream Land with color, better presentation and the fact that you can actually absorb the enemies and it also has 7 different games so instead of wasting your money on this game you should buy Kirby Super Star, seriously though buy Super Star, its awesome.

5.0/10
A 5 means the game is close to being bad but it isnt, its neither good or bad, may find some enjoyment.
See you later Guys!

Retro Review: Sonic Adventure

After the sheer awesomeness that was Sonic 3 and Knuckles SEGA began trying to bring its mascot into 3D, with little to no success for 8 years..., well I shall give a little backstory.
-Sonic 3D Blast in 1996..., and that was barely OK.
-A Hub world/ Minigame in Sonic Jam called Sonic World which was fun but nothing fully fleshed.
-Then a game called Sonic Xtreme was in development for a long time and then it was cancelled.
And THEN, after the lifetime of the Sega Saturn ended a new Sega console came out named the Sega Dreamcast which was revolutionary and one of the launch titles was Sonic Adventure, and how does it hold up today? lets find out.

SONIC ADVENTURE REVIEW!!!!!

The Story:

This game"s plot was actually very big for a Sonic game at the time but is actually divided in 6 different stories, I"ll explain Sonic"s story because if i talked about all the stories we are going to be here all January.

Sonic vs Chaos 0
-Sonic"s story: Sonic is jumping around Station Square and he starts seeing the police heading towards a building, he then sees that the police are fighting this weird liquid... thing, he then attacks it and defeats it, this thing escapes through the drain, the next day Sonic sees Tails"s plane crashing into an island and you have to get to him and then we explains that its a new plane powered with a chaos emerald, then after some traveling you end in Tails"s workshop and you find Dr.Eggman who steals Tails"s chaos emerald, and then feeds it to the thing Sonic saw earlier, it is revealed that this thing is called Chaos and if you feed him all the chaos emeralds he will become the god of destruction so your job as Sonic is to stop this collecting chaos emeralds and defeating Eggman.

The story is actually really big and each character"s individual story is well done, but the main story in general is a mess.

The Gameplay:

Now this is where Sonic Adventure really diferentiate itself from the old Sonic games, there are a total of 6!, at the beginning you can only use Sonic but as you progress you unlock different characters with different gameplay styles, each one of them corresponds to the story of that character.

First there is the most important of the game, Sonic"s gameplay style:

-Sonic levels consist of getting into a chaos emerald or other things, Sonic plays here like in Sonic 3 and Knuckles only, well, in 3D, everything he could do before he can do here, spindash, jump, everything except the insta-shield that got replaced with a completely new technique called the homing attack, if you press the action button while on midair sonic will homing on the closest enemy on the screen and you can chain it to kill lots of enemies, this attack keeps things flowing and Sonic"s gameplay is brought well into the 3D world, its fast and well done in levels like Emerald Coast and Speed Highway but some of the levels do not match perfectly Sonic"s style like Windy Valley.

-Tails plays just like sonic and even as fast, but he can fly and his levels are designed to race, so they are a lot shorter than Sonic levels, he controls all right and the only problem with him is that sometimes you can lose control of him.

Knuckles plays actually pretty different, his story consists of recovering the master emerald so his levels consist on finding 3 emerald shards on each level, thankfully he has a radar that blinks harder and harder depending on the distance between you and the shard, the level are closed in but Knuckles is just as fast as Sonic or Tails and he still has his gliding abilities, even though his gameplay style is not really what we expected  but thankfully its fast and the gameplay style works fine itself.

So overall the main trio has been incorporated well enough, but in this game there are 3 newcomers, Amy, E-102 Gamma and... Big.

Amy plays like Sonic but is nowhere near as fast and her levels have more an emphasis on regular plattformers than an emphasis on speed, oh, and a hammer, you have to reach to the end of the level while escaping from a giant robot named Zero, she only has 4 levels but thankfully they are not that bad, it truly is a love it or hate it kind of levels.

E-102 Gamma is more like a shooting platformer, Gamma is slower than sonic but still is kinda fast, his levels have a time limit and you can extend this time limit by killing enemies and then reaching to the end to fight a pathetic boss fight, Gamma is enjoyable but it feels out of place.

Big is just... fishing for his frog named Froggy, thats pretty much it, and Big is one of the biggest problems i have with this game, the fact you need to complete his story in order to get the final story is irritating because his gameplay style has nothing to do with high-speed plattforming, I truly hate Big and his gameplay style.

And overall I enjoy a lot Sonic, Tails and Knuckles gameplay styles, Gamma and Amy"s styles are, while not perfect kinda enjoyable but Big... ugh.

There are Hub worlds between the levels, and i didnt really liked them, they are not as bad as Sonic 06"s hub worlds but they are still not enjoyable.

Oh, and the chao garden, its a pet simulator in which you train your chao and prepare him for races, i dont find the appeal.

The Music:

Im going to say it right now, the sound is AMAZING, songs like Speed Highway or Emerald Coast are awesome, each character theme song is pretty good, its awesome.

The graphics:

Now the game looks nice and all but some of the models dont look as good as they used to when it first camed out, but if there is something i hated since the very first time i played this game is the lip-syncing, the japanese lipsyncing is mixed with the english voice actors and the result is a disaster but the game has nice aesthetics but they are not perfect, the backgrounds and levels look nice.

The replay value:

In this game each time you complete a level you get an emblem, you can play a level multiple times to get more emblem, there is no real meaning but its a nice distraction and the chao garden can also entretain you.

Conclusion:

Sonic Adventure is a game hard to judge, I really enjoy Sonic, Tails and Knuckles stages, and I enjoy Gamma"s and Amy"s enough,  I dont like Big"s at all, the game has ok aesthethics, the story is a mess when joined together, the soundtrack is amazing, it has aged well enough, not perfect but its a fun game, if you want to try a 3D Sonic game, you can try this one, its worth at least a look.

7/10
A 7 means the game is pretty good, while not perfect the game is still enjoyable enough.

SORRY FOR TAKING SO LONG
see you in a few days!.

Retro Review: Donkey Kong 64

In 1999 a game made by RARE came out on the nintendo 64, this game was one of the last games made by RARE before microsoft purchased them, this game as a twist in gameplay and if was something unexpected, this game is Donkey Kong 64, what do I think about the game?, lets find out.

DONKEY KONG 64 REVIEW!!!!!!

Story:

The story of DK64 takes place after DKC3, K.Rool returns with a gigantic artificial island and a powerful cannon named "Blast-O-matic" and wants to use to destroy DK island, however the island crashes into DK island and the cannon malfuctions, K.Rool then orders to capture "Diddy Kong", "Lanky Kong", "Cranky Kong" and "Tiny Kong", and steals all the Donkey Kong"s banana hoard, Squawks informs Donkey Kong of the disappearance of his hoard and the Kongs and then Donkey tells Cranky about what happened
immediately afterwards. After entering Training Barrels under Cranky's command, he is given a potion: Simian Slam. Donkey is also told to
acquire fifteen banana medals for a special surprise. Donkey then used his newly-acquired potion to exit the inside of Donkey Kong Island.
Unfortunately, every other area outside was blocked, except for an island attached to K. Rool's mechanical island. There, Donkey met K. Lumsy, a gargantuan Kritter who disobeyed the tyrannical king's order to wreck havoc on Donkey Kong Island. When Donkey agreed to free him, K. Lumsy danced in joy and dislodged the boulder on Donkey Kong Island that blocked the first world: Jungle Japes, as Donkey Kong you have to get 25 Golden Bananas in 7 diferent worlds, 5 with each characters, you have to rescue the other kongs and use them to get more bananas and get 8 Keys to rescue K.Lumsy and unlocking levels on the way.

Gameplay:

First level: Jungle Japes.
This game is awfully similar to Banjo-Kazooie, and thats not bad at all, as Donkey Kong you have to get 25 Golden Bananas in 7 diferent worlds, 5 with each characters,  each one has some special abilities that you buy through the game, for example Lanky Kong can handstand, and each character has his own stats:
-Donkey Kong is kinda slow but strong
-Diddy Kong is faster than Donkey Kong but weaker
-Lanky Kong is the balanced one, both speed and kinda fast
-Tiny Kong is the fastest and weakest
-Chunky Kong is the Strongest but slowest.
All 5 characters you control.
There are 8 diferent worlds each one with his own gimmick and powerups, 25 Golden bananas each world, and also you have to collect diferent colored bananas, 500 in each world and a 100 with each character, you need these bananas to open boss doors by feeding the bananas to a hungry hungry hippo and then you fight the boss, after you defeat a boss you get a K.Lumsy key, you have to get many upgrades through the levels:
-Candy Kong gives you a musical instrument and more health
-Funky Kong gives you a gun
-Cranky Kong gives you upgrades.

Graphics:
The engine used for the graphics reminds me a lot of Banjo Kazooie, the game looks amazing for the N64, everything is detailed and colorful, it is the first game to use the expansion pack and it definately shows.

Music:

The soundtrack is amazing, it gets you interested in playing the game and finding out whats going to happen, Jungle Japes is adventuorous and fun, angry aztec is interesting, Frantic Factory is creepy and weird, Gloomy Galleon is boring...,  Fungi Forest is light-hearted and adorable, Crystal Cavern is so natural and calmed, Creepy Castle is well... creepy, and boy, Hideout Helm is perfect for setting the mood for the final level and the overworld is really nice.

Replay Value:
Considering all the bananas and overall colectibles you can get, and how fun the game is, it is kinda replayable and fun to complete, the multiplayer is OK but its not perfect and it has some flaws.

Conclusion:

Dk64 is a platformer that while it has some flaws, the game is fun to play and enjoy, if you have a N64 and you like platformers you should definately check it out.

8.0/10
An 8 means the game does a great job, is does many things right but it doesnt reach perfection.

See ya later!

Retro Review: Metal Slug X

Hey guys, its Dead-Pool here to bring you another retro-review, but this review is not like the others, this is about a PS1 game that starts in the classic game machines, with the classic controls, this game is called
METAL SLUG X!!!!!!!!
3
2
1
.
.
.
GO!!!!

The story!

In general this game got the same story as Metal Slug 2 because this version isa remake, SNK(metal slug developer) made Metal Slug X with more weapons, the story is about a man called General Morden, the antagonist from the first game is back once more with his army, decided on taking over the world AGAIN. It is up to the Peregrine Falcon squad who are joined by two new characters: Eri Kasamoto and Fiollina Germi of the Sparrows Inteligence Unit, to save the day.

The gameplay!

In Metal Slug X, the gameplay is like the old ones, a 2D game based in war aspects, this is like Contra too, but this game got new features because this is a remake of the second one. In this game, the player can turn fat in various areas of the fame, instead of just on mission 4. There is also a new enemy called Dog Mummy, as well as a few variations of the Mummy that appeared in Metal Slug 3.
Metal Slug Type - R.gif  The SV-001 got an upgraded version that is faster and can jump higher, and the Camel Slug"s   vulcan was slightly modified.
Camelslug.gif

Character selection
In this game you can chosse between four awesome characters: Marco, Eri, Tarma and Fio. All are good options to play but i always use Tarma because for me is the coolest and his sunglasses are awesome. In general, all are the same but some of them got more speed, the story is the same for all characters.

The Keesi.png
THE CAMEL WINS
In the end of all levels there"s 1 boss, the first of all is like a big airplane called The Kessi. The Kessi is a VTOL gunship meant to provide close air support to ground troops. It"s equipped with anti-air guns on its wings and also can throw you bombs HEAVY BOMBS
but their lenght is enough to carry support tanks on them.

FINALLY, when you beat all the levels and you get to the final of the mission 6, you have to beat THE RUGNAME......
clear=right
Is something above me......
He acts as the Martian Mothership from which troops are dispatched. Its very heavy armored, and far too large to destroy with regular weapons. The Rugname"s massive size makes he an easy target, all you need to do is aim upwards. Because the cannon will always hit the same spot, the larger the larger threat is unlimited horde of mini-UFO gunning you. After a very long time fighting that beast, a rebel in a Eaca-B will make a kamikaze attack into the core, making it retreat.

The graphics!

This has very good graphics compared to the old ones, the backgrounds and sprites look amazing and the bosses looks detailed For an old game, is very detailed, all look kinda realistic for a game in the PS1.

The music!

In this game the music cant be heared good because all you heard is the PIU PIU PIU of the weapons and explosions. But if you heard carefully you are going to heard a good war song that get you pumped.

The replay value!

You can do a lot of things after beating the game like collecting all the weapons and ride all vehicles that you want. This game is really fun and you can beat it a lot of times LIKE ME, i beat this game like 10 times and i never get bored.

Conclusion. If you got a PS1 and you want to play a game for long time, buy this game and get fun with it.

      7.5/10
A 7 means the game is pretty good, while not perfect the game is still enjoyable.

See you later in my next review, top ten or any idea came to my mind

Retro Review:Mega man X

I dont like this game...
Meh...

After 6 games of the old stuff, people started losing the interest on mega man, with the 5th and 6th games being not that innovative, so capcom decided to release a game that will destroy all perspectives and use 16-bit power with the help of the SUPER NINTENDO!!!!

MEGA MAN X REVIEW!

The Story: This game takes place 100 years after the original mega man games took place, A human archaeologist named Dr. Cain discovers the ruins of a robotics research facility that had once been operated by the legendary robot designer Dr. Thomas Light Among the ruins, Cain finds a large capsule which contains a highly advanced robot with human-level intelligence and emotions called Megaman X, he develops a new kinds of robot based on X called Reploids who eventually start being mass-produced, but some start to go crazy and go Maverick, Cain then makes an elite police called "Maverick Hunters" and their leader is a powerful reploid called Sigma, after a while he goes maverick and most of the hunters also go maverick and declares to destroy humanity, so X and Zero (The only hunters left) go to hunt Sigma and the other mavericks. Story is pretty good for a super nintendo game and it is actually even more developed in the remake for the psp.

The Gameplay:
Add caption
At the beginning of the game X controls like the original Mega man with 1 diference, you can wall-jump, it truly changes the gameplay in terms of level design giving tons of exploration, after you beat the intro stage you can choose between 8 stages, each one with a maverick to beat and when you beat them you get a new attack, these mavericks are:
-Storm Eagle
-Boomer Kuwanger
-Chill penguin
-Launch Octopus
-Armored Armadillo
-Spark Mandrill
-Sting Chamaleon
-Flame Mammoth
Within the levels you will diferent upgrades that will make
Without armor
you stronger and more powerful than before, like heart tanks, sub-tanks and most importantly, armor pieces
With all the armor
You can find armor pieces that give all new abilities, 4 parts, Head Part, Body Part, Arm Part, Leg Part.
The Head Part lets you destroy blocks with your head (Mario will be proud)
The body part reduces the damage by 50%
The Arm part lets you charge the special weapons and charge your X-Buster even more.
The leg part lets you dash, and thats one of the main diferences from the original games, the dash lets you go faster and mixed with the wall-jump things are even faster.
After beating all the mavericks you can go to Sigma"s base and fight him(not before a series of levels and boss fights).
Look at that background!

The graphics!:
The game looks really nice for the Super nintendo, the backgrounds and the sprites look well designed and pretty cool.

The music:
The soundtrack is really good, the music is relaxing and its fun to listen to the songs, Storm eagle and the boss fight theme are my favorite but all the music is good overall.

The replay value!:
The game is so fun that it can replayed a lot, not as much as other X games but its still really fun.

Conclusion:
Mega Man X is a game that you should try, maybe its kinda old but its still really fun, while the future X games will improve the formula and try new things, this one deserves a shot, it doesnt matter if its the PSP remake or the original, try it out.

8.5/10
An 8 means the game does a great job and the mistakes are not that noticeable.

See ya later!!!

Retro-Review:Sonic 3 and Knuckles(1994)

In 1991 Sega tried to make a mascot to compete with Nintendo"s invincible Mario, the result was the cocky and relaxed hedgehog known as Sonic, Sonic 1 was a sucess and for the first Nintendo actually lost big sales thanks to Sonic the Hedgehog, then a sequel came out and it WRECK EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!, its the best saled Sega genesis game EVER, and what do you with a good sequel?
YOU MAKE ANOTHER ONE!

P.D:To play the real Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles and use lock-on on both of them.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles review!

The story:
SHORYUKEN!
The story of this game begins with Sonic and Tails aproaching the newly discovered Angel Island, Sonic goes Super Sonic and goes in the island and while entering Knuckles the Echidna shoryukens Sonic and takes away the chaos emeralds, Sonic discovers that Knuckles was tricked by Dr.Eggman and thinks that they want to steal the Master Emerald.
As sonic or Tails your objective is to go through 13 zones(2 acts and a boss each) and defeat Dr.Eggman.
As Knuckles the story is a little diferent , after Sonic"s story Eggman sends an Eggrobo to take care of Knuckles as he rebuilds the Death Egg.

The Gameplay:
You can play with 3 diferent characters, Sonic plays like the older sonic games but now has a new technique called the insta-shield that you use if you double jump, it lets you kill more things that the spin attack couldnt and you have an elemental shield you can do diferent moves like a fire dash, a double jump or a bounce.
Tails has all the sonic abilities but instead of the insta-shield and the element attacks you can fly, its actually really fun and slightly broken, and Knuckles has a lower jump than sonic but instead of and insta-shield he can climb walls.
New to this game are the elemental shields that i mentioned earlier, The lighting, fire and bubble shield.
-The fire shield protects you from fire
-The electric shield protects you from electricity and is a magnet that attracts rings.
-The bubble shield protects you from drowning
also all the shields let you take an extra hit and remember this is Sonic so collect rings because if you get hit without any rings you die, there are 2 acts in each level and in the end of act 2 there"s a boss you have to defeat.
-After Knuckles shoryukens the heck outta Sonic you lose the chaos emeralds and have to get them back, to find a special stage you need to find giant rings scattered through each level, the special stages in this game consist of touching a number of blue spheres to complete a stage, if you touch a red sphere you lose and have to find a special ring again, these special stages are my favorite of any sonic game just because of the fun and the music, if you get all 7 chaos emeralds you can transform into Super Sonic or Super Knuckles, Tails... gets nothing.
HOWEVER!
If you manage to get all 7 emeralds before the level Mushroom Hill Zone you can sacrifice your super form in exchange for 7 more special stages and if you complete them...
HYPER SONIC!!!!
Hyper Sonic is the physical form of overpowered, aside from getting all super sonic privileges like being invincible and only dieing from drowning, crushing or falling down a cliff, now sonic is inmortal to drowning and if you press the jump button twice on air you can kill every minor enemy in the screen!, (Like super sonic) you need 50 rings to activate it and if you ran out of rings you will go back to normal sonic.
Hyper Knuckles has the new ability of shaking the screen when you climb on the walls.
And Tails now has a super form, and this is truly overpowered... if you wanna know why, play the game and find out.
Also, to see the real ending of the game you need to get all emeralds, there are 13 zones in this game, im just going to say i like Hydrocity, Mushroom Hill, Flying Battery and Carvinal Night more.

The music:
This sound is just amazing, some of the songs just make you amazed of how good the songs are, special mention to Hydrocity act2, Sky Sanctuary(both acts), Launch Base act1 and Death Egg act1, they are AWESOME!
Fun fact: Hydrocity act2 is actually my ringtone, its that good.
Also, did you know that the music was made by Michael Jackson, but i"ll cover that in a fact of the day later on.

Looks nice, doesnt it?

The graphics:

This game looks absolutely amazing for the Sega Genesis, the backgrounds are colorful and nice, the sprites look detailed and i love the art style overall.

The replay Value:

Considering there are 3 characters that play nice and diferent, 13 diferent levels that never get tiring(Except for Sandopolis), a fun multiplayer that i barely mentioned(sorry), some nice music and overall fun, this game is really replayable and its hard to get bored from it.

The conclusion:

Sonic 3 and Knuckles does everything perfect as a sequel and it improves on what Sonic had done in the past 3 years, fun and memorable levels and music, the multiplayer is a nice distraction and with so much fun, this is a game everyone should try.

                                  9.5/10
A 9 means the game excells at every single possible angle and it deserves your money.

See you later for a very special review...
